UK's Brexit plan not remotely acceptable - EU parliament

The European Parliament told the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday the latest proposals for the Withdrawal Agreement were not acceptable.

"The UK proposals do not match even remotely what was agreed as a sufficient compromise in the backstop," the parliament's statement read, asserting "safeguarding peace and stability on the island of Ireland, protection of citizens and EU’s legal order has to be the main focus of any deal."

Earlier, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the proposed deal yesterday, suggested that his country's parliament also votes on the Brexit deal.
