UK's daily cases surge by 11,007, hit February high

The number of newly registered COVID-19 cases in the United Kingdom soared by 11,007 in Thursday's update according to the official data, marking a continued upward trend since the easing of the restriction measures and reaching February figures.

According to the data from Public Health England, 19 people died after contracting the disease and 222 were admitted to hospitals across the country out of more than 1.1 million conducted COVID-19 tests.

The weekly data suggested a surge of 33.7% in people testing COVID-19 positive, 41.8% jump in death cases and 43% increase in hospital admissions. In response to the situation, the British government has delayed the reopening date for England by a month until July 19, with Scotland following its steps shortly after the announcement.
