UK's Hammond: Brexit vote could be next week

British Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond said on Thursday that the United Kingdom's House of Commons could vote on the revised Brexit deal early next week, local media reported.

"There may be an opportunity to bring a vote back to the House of Commons - there may be an opportunity, but that will depend on the progress that is made in the next few days," noted Hammond.

On Wednesday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May stated that her government is seeking "legally binding changes" to the Irish backstop, an insurance policy intended to prevent the reemergence of a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland after she failed to reach the agreement with the European Union. Meanwhile, European Council President Donald Tusk said he believes, just like the European Union does, that the British are aware that the "chaotic separation" without an agreement is "unacceptable."
