UN: Civilian death toll in Ukraine hits 227

The ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine took the lives of 227 civilians, while another 525 were injured between the start of the offensive on February 24 and March 1, said the United Nations.

According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), most of the casualties were caused by "the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including shelling from heavy artillery and multi-launch rocket systems, and airstrikes."

The organization added that it accesses the real toll to be "considerably higher."
