United to order 25 more Boeing 737 MAX aircraft

United Airlines Inc. will increase its order of the Boeing Co.'s 737 MAX aircraft, the New York Times reported on Monday. The airline will order an additional 25 planes, receiving 24 this year, 40 next year, and 54 in 2023.

United's Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella told the Times that the acquisition will allow the airline to be more competitive. "This is going to allow us to get back on that track as we come out of the pandemic," he added. The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) lifted the ban on the 737 MAX in November after the aircraft was grounded in 2019 following two deadly crashes.
