US and China reach consensus on trade

The United States and China reached a consensus in trade talks on Friday when Vice Premier Liu He spoke to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, Beijing's Ministry of Commerce confirmed.

The trade deal "in principle" was agreed in a phone call earlier in the day and the agreement was also confirmed Lighthizer. The US official also stated that the two sides talked about further trade talks.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that a so-called phase-one trade deal would be signed soon after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Chile was canceled due to protests in the South American country. Trump was supposed to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the summit and sign the deal on November 17.
