US announces more sanctions against Russia, Belarus

The United States Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) unveiled on Tuesday a new list of sanctions against people and entities linked to Russia and Belarus.

A "network" supposedly led by Belgian businessman Hans De Geetere, which "consists of nine entities and five individuals based in Russia, Belgium, Cyprus, Sweden, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands" has been sanctioned over "procuring electronics with military applications for Russian end-users," according to a statement by the Treasury. At the same time, the US Department of Justice, the US Department of Commerce and Belgian authorities announced indictments and other measures against De Geetere over his ties to Russia and China.

The OFAC also sanctioned 11 entities and eight persons due to their alleged involvement in the "brutal suppression of Belarus's democratic civil society, corrupt financial enrichment of [Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's] family, and complicity in Russia's unjustified war against Ukraine."
