US builder confidence slightly up in September

Builder confidence in the United States for the newly built single-family homes improved slightly in September in comparison to the previous month, in line with analysts' expectations, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI) stated in their report released on Monday.

The Housing Market Index (HMI) came in at 76, rising by one point from August's 75.

"The September data show stability as some building material cost challenges ease, particularly for softwood lumber," NAHB Chairman Chuck Fowke commented. "However, delivery times remain extended and the chronic construction labor shortage is expected to persist as the overall labor market recovers."
