US business inventories up 0.1% in December

Inventories in the manufacturing and trade sectors in the United States gained 0.1% in December compared to the previous month to reach $2.04 trillion, according to a report by the US Census Bureau released on Friday. The figure was 2.2% higher on a yearly basis.

The combined value of distributive trade sales and manufacturers' shipments for December, adjusted for seasonal and trading-day differences was estimated at $1.46 trillion, losing 0.1% from November, but rising by 1.7% year-over-year.

The ratio between business inventories and sales was 1.40 at the end of December, up from 1.39 recorded in December 2018.
