US buys 50M pediatric doses of Pfizer vaccine

The United States government purchased 50 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE, the companies revealed on Thursday. The shots will be delivered by April 30 and will serve " to support preparedness for pediatric vaccinations, including securing vaccines for children under 5 years of age, should they receive regulatory authorization."

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended on Tuesday the use of a lower dose Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for children aged between five and eleven. This is the final purchase option under the supply agreement between the administration and the two providers, with the deal totaling 600 million doses.
