US can't coerce China to change HK stance with sanctions - official

The United States cannot force China to give up on the Hong Kong national security law by imposing sanctions on officials from the autonomous province, director of Beijing's liaison office in Hong Kong, Luo Huining (pictured left) stated on Saturday.

Luo added that Washington "misunderstood" modern global affairs and "miscalculated" when it decided to impose sanctions on the officials."I don't have any assets abroad. Isn't it a waste of effort to impose sanctions? Of course, I could send $100 to Mr. Trump for him to freeze," Luo commented.

Earlier, the US announced sanctions on 11 officials from Hong Kong for their roles in the implementation of the Hong Kong national security law which foresees strong reactions to all anti-Beijing behavior. The legislation has been severely criticized by the US and its allies, but China insists the matter is its internal affair.
