US closes mostly higher after earnings, data

Stock market indexes in the United States were mostly higher at the close on Tuesday following earnings reports by Walmart and The Home Depot. Traders also looked at the latest data on the housing market and industrial production. Meanwhile, prices of oil futures dropped as the Iran nuclear deal seemingly has a good chance of being reinstated.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index closed with a 0.71% or 240-point gain as Walmart rose by 5.11%. The Nasdaq 100 decreased 0.23% at the close, pulled down by Moderna's 4.99% drop. The S&P 500 was up 0.19% at the end of trading with its best performer Take-Two Interactive Software jumping 7.22%.

The euro was 0.09% higher compared to the dollar, going for 1.01694 at 3:59 pm ET.
