US consumer confidence grows further in September

The United States Consumer Confidence continued to improve in September compared to August, a report released by the Conference Board revealed on Tuesday. The figure reached 108.0 versus 103.6 recorded in August, and beat anaylsts' expectations. Additionally, the Present Situation Index grew further in September, standing at 149.6 compared to August's reading of 145.3. The Expectations Index was also up, rising to 80.3 from 75.8 recorded a month prior.

"Consumer confidence improved in September for the second consecutive month supported in particular by jobs, wages, and declining gas prices," Lynn Franco, Senior Director of Economic Indicators at the Conference Board shared. She further said although "looking ahead, the improvement in confidence may bode well for consumer spending in the final months of 2022," inflation and interest-rate increases "remain strong headwinds to growth in the short term."
