US consumer mood hits pre-pandemic high in July

Consumer confidence in the United States continued to improve in July, beating expectations to land at its highest level since February 2020, according to a survey released by the Conference Board on Tuesday.

The headline index for consumer mood in the US this month was reported at 129.1 after hitting 127.3 in June's survey. Meanwhile, the Expectations indicator rose from 107 to 108.4 points, while the Present situation index climbed from 157.7 to 160.3.

"Consumers' appraisal of present-day conditions held steady, suggesting economic growth in Q3 is off to a strong start," Senior Director of Economic Indicators at The Conference Board Lynn Franco commented on the new data.
