US consumer sentiment brightens in November

Consumer Sentiment Index in the United States increased by 2.5% to reach 99.2 points in November, according to a preliminary report published by the University of Michigan on Friday. On an annual basis, the index rose 0.9%.

Current Economic Conditions Index increased by 3.2% from the previous month, while dipping 0.8% year-over-year, to stand at 115.2. Meanwhile, Index of Consumer Expectations landed at 88.9, 1.8% up month-on-month, while on an annual scale it advanced 2.2%.

Nearly all of the early December gain was among upper income households, the report said, noting that those households reported near-record gains in household wealth, mainly due to a rise in stock prices. Overall assessment of their current finances was the third highest in the past twenty years, the report noted.
