US consumer sentiment improves 1.1% in February

At 100.9, the Consumer Sentiment Index in the US improved 1.1% in February compared to the previous month, according to the preliminary results published by the University of Michigan on Friday.

The Current Economic Conditions slipped 0.5% on a monthly basis to reach 113.8, but still showed a yearly gain of 4.9%. The Consumer Expectations Index, measuring future economic conditions, recorded a monthly increase of 2.3% and jumped a significant 9.7% on a yearly basis.

"Current personal finances, as well as evaluations of the national economy each, posted large gains, while consumers' views on buying conditions for household durables posted a significant loss," claimed the university's report.
