US down at open following Powell's remarks

Major stock exchanges on Wall Street traded lower at the open on Thursday as investors gathered their thoughts following the Federal Reserve's latest monetary policy move, dot plot and Chair Jerome Powell's speech. Powell noted that although a soft landing is still a possibility, it is not the central bank's "baseline expectation."

At the open, the Dow Jones tumbled 0.31% or 105 points and the Nasdaq 100 sank 1%. The worst performer on both indexes was Cisco, dragging them down by 3.85% at 9:31 am ET. At 9:30 am ET, the S&P 500 lost 0.63%, as Las Vegas Sands slid 3.65% a minute later.

The euro traded 0.08% below the dollar, selling for 1.06525 at 9:29 am ET.
