US durable goods fall 2.1% in November

The number of durable goods orders in the United States decreased by 2.1% or $5.8 billion in November, landing at $270.6 billion, marking the biggest drop month over month since the COVID-19 lockdowns, a report published by the United States Census Bureau on Friday showed.

Transportation equipment led the downward trend, decreasing by 6.3% or $6.1 billion compared to the previous month, coming in at $91.3 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders were up by 0.2%.

In addition, shipments of manufactured durable goods improved by $0.6 billion or 0.2% to stand at $275.9 billion. Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods edged down by $0.1 billion, practically unchanged, to $1.14 trillion, while inventories expanded by 0.1% or $0.4 billion to $489.7 billion.
