US durable goods orders down 0.9% in December

Durable goods orders in the United States fell by 0.9% in December compared to November's revised figure, according to a preliminary report by the US Census Bureau on Thursday. Orders dropped further than the estimated 0.6% and had a total value of around $267.6 billion.

Excluding transportation, new orders increased by 0.4%. Excluding defense, new orders were up 0.1%. Transportation equipment, down three of the last four months, drove the decrease, $3.3 billion or 3.9% to $80.1 billion, the report stated.
