US durable goods orders rise 5.6% in December
Durable goods orders in the United States amounted to $286.9 billion, increasing by 5.6% in December compared to the previous month, according to a report by the US Census Bureau on Thursday. The rise in orders exceeded expectations by far, as estimates put it at 2.5%. Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.1%, as transportation equipment accounted for $108.1 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods in December improved by 0.5% on a monthly basis to $277.7 billion. Transportation equipment drove the increase, growing 1.7% to $93.8 billion.
