US durable goods orders up 0.6% in October

New orders for manufactured durable goods in the United States stood at $248.7 billion in October, rising 0.6% from the last month's revised figure of $247.3 billion, the US Census Bureau said in a release on Wednesday.

Excluding transportation, the new durable goods orders increased 0.6% in October, while excluding defense, the figure was 0.1% higher. Fabricated metal products, which were up two of the last three months, led the increase by 1.8% to $34.1 billion. Shipments of manufactured durable goods remained virtually unchanged at $254.2 billion. Machinery, up two of the last three months, inspired the boost with a 1% growth to reach the figure of $33.1 billion.

Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in October were up 0.1% to $1,164.8 billion, while inventories, which were higher fifteen of the last sixteen months, increased $1.4 billion or 0.3% to $432 billion.
