US equity markets mixed at open amid debt ceiling, data
Wall Street equity markets opened mixed on Thursday amid some favorable news regarding the debt ceiling talks. Yesterday, the US debt ceiling bill passed the House of Representatives.
In other news, new financial statements came in after the closing bell, while Macy's published its latest earnings report early in the morning. On the data front, the number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims advanced by 2,000 to 232,000, according to the Department of Labor. Conversely, the ADP National Employment Report said private payrolls grew last month by 278,000.
The Dow Jones lost 0.37% at 9:31 am ET, with Salesforce sinking 7.67%, while the Nasdaq 100 added 0.12%, with JD.com leading the gains, improving by 2.61%. At the same time, the S&P 500 was flat.
Finally, on the currency front, the euro improved by 0.20% against the dollar at 9:28 am ET, selling for $1.07104.
