US factory orders rise 1.8% in December
New orders for manufactured goods in the United States in December rose by 1.8% or $10 billion to $552.5 billion compared to the previous month, the US Census Bureau reported on Thursday. The reading came below market projections.
Shipments decreased by 0.7% or $4 billion according to the report, reaching $543.3 billion, while unfilled orders rose by 1.3% or $14.4 billion to come at $1.16 trillion.
Inventories amounted to $493.6 billion, increasing by 0.7% or $3.5 in December. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.49, going above the November figure.
