US forces kill senior ISIS leader in Somalia

United States Special Operations Forces killed a high-ranking Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) leader Bilal al-Sudani in a raid in a remote mountainous area of Somalia, the US media reported on Thursday citing a Washington official.

According to the reports, the White House is expected to make a formal announcement later today. US Africa Command has confirmed that the country's military "conducted a successful counterterrorism operation in Somalia."

Al-Sudani was in charge of ISIS operations across the African continent and beyond, focusing on funding and facilitating extremists as far as Afghanistan.
