US grounds entire Osprey fleet after crash in Japan

The United States Air Force Special Operations Command shared in a statement that it will be grounding all of the Osprey military aircraft.

The decision comes following an incident, where the aforementioned aircraft, carrying eight staff members, crashed in the ocean near Japan's Yakushima island, leaving all the individuals dead. "Preliminary investigation information indicates a potential materiel failure caused the mishap, but the underlying cause of the failure is unknown at this time. The standdown will provide time and space for a thorough investigation to determine causal factors and recommendations to ensure the Air Force CV-22 fleet returns to flight operations," it was written in the statement.

The safety of the model has already been brought into question, as numerous serious crashes occurred in recent years.
