US housing starts down by 1.6% in September

Housing starts in the United States went down by 1.6% in September in comparison to the previous month's revised level to stand at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,555,000, missing out on analysts' expectations, the US Census Bureau revealed in its report published on Tuesday. On an annual level, the figure rose by 7.4%.

Privately‐owned housing completions came in at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,240,000, a decline of 4.6% month-on-month and 13.0% year-on-year.

Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits stood at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,589,000. That marks a decrease of 7.7% in comparison to August's revised level and is virtually unchanged from the level recorded in September 2020.
