US industrial production falls 0.4% in September

Industrial production in the United States decreased by 0.4% in September compared to August and 0.1% year-on-year, the Federal Reserve announced in a report on Thursday. On a quarterly basis, industrial production moved 1.2% up in comparison to the third quarter of 2018, showing improvement after a loss of approximately 2% in both of the previous two quarters.

Manufacturing production declined by 0.5% on a monthly basis and 0.9% compared to September 2018. Capacity utilization dipped 0.4 percentage points to stand at 77.5% in September.

Mining production contracted 1.3% in comparison to August but was 2.6% higher year-on-year. Construction stood at the same level on a monthly basis and rose by 1.2% annually.
