US initial jobless claims down 18,000 to 214,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending July 7 went down by 18,000 compared to the previous week's revised level, to a total of 214,000, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday. Meanwhile, the previous week's level was upwardly revised from 231,000 to 232,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 1.2% for the week ending June 30, unchanged compared to previous week's unrevised rate, while the advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the same week amounted to 1,739,000, 3,000 less than the previous week. Meanwhile, the 4-week moving average was 1,728,500, up 9,500 from previous week's revised average.
