US initial jobless claims down 24,000 to 400,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ended July 24 decreased by 24,000 from the previous week's revised level to 400,000, missing the market estimates, the US Labor Department said on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average was 394,500, an increase of 8,000 from the prior week's revised average.

Meanwhile, the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was unchanged at 2.4% for the week ending July 17. Insured unemployment during the same week was 3,269,000, up by 7,000 from the previous week's revised level.
