US initial jobless claims down 38,000 to 326,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States dropped to 326,000 in the week ending October 2, according to a report by the US Department of Labor on Thursday, surpassing predictions of around 348,000. The number fell by 38,000 from the previous week's revised level of 364,000.

The insured unemployment rate was 2% for the week ending September 25, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous week's revised rate. Insured unemployment stood at 2,714,000, which was 97,000 lower than the previous week and the lowest level since March 14, 2020. The 4-week moving average was 2,765,000, a decrease of 34,500 from the previous week's revised average, the lowest level since March 21.
