US initial jobless claims down 51,000 to 364,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending June 25 decreased 51,000 from the previous week's revised level to 364,000, beating market expectations, the US Labor Department unveiled on Thursday.

The previous week's level was revised upwards by 4,000 to 415,000. At the same time, the 4-week moving average had a weekly decline of 6,000, landing at 392,750. Both the 4-week moving average and the initial claims numbers were the lowest since March 14 of last year.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 2.5 percent for the week ending June 19, remaining unchanged from the previous week's revised rate. Meanwhile, the advance number for the seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the same week increased 56,000 week-over-week to 3,469,000.
