US initial jobless claims down by 1,000 to 191,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States fell by 1,000 to 191,000 in the week ending March 18, the Department of Labor revealed in its report on Thursday. The 4-week moving average declined by 250 from the previous week's unrevised average to stand at 196,250.

Meanwhile, the insured unemployment rate stood at 1.2% in the week ending March 11, marking no change compared to the previous week, with the advance number for insured unemployment arriving at 1,694,000, rising 14,000 from the previous week's revised figures. The 4-week moving average was s 1,684,000, up by 8,500 compared to the week prior.
