US initial jobless claims down by 10,000 to 204,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending January 11 decreased by 10,000 compared to the previous week's figure of 214,000 to land at 204,000, missing the estimates that saw it growing modestly, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday. The 4-week moving average stood at 216,250, slipping by 7,750 from the previous week's unrevised average of 224,000.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate remained unchanged for the week ending January 4, landing at 1.2%. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment for the same week was 1,767,000, a drop of 37,000 from the previous week's revised level. Meanwhile, the 4-week moving average increased by 10,500 compared to a week prior, reaching 1,755,500.
