US initial jobless claims down by 13,000 to 222,000

Initial jobless claims count in the United States reached 222,000 in the week ending December 21, dropping by 13,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure, the US Department of Labor said on Thursday. The four-week moving average stood at 228,000, rising 2,250 from the average reported a week prior.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% in a week ending December 14, remaining virtually unchanged compared to a week ending December 7. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment for the week ending December 14 landed at 1,719,000, down by 6,000 compared to a previous week's revised number. The four-week moving average was 1,703,500, dropping by 19,250 from the previous week's revised average.
