US initial jobless claims down by 3,000 to 183,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States declined by 3,000 to 183,000 in the week ending January 27, the Department of Labor stated in its report published on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average dropped by 5,750 from the previous week's unrevised average to come in at 191,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending January 21 stood at 1.1%, unchanged from the previous week's revised rate. The number for insured unemployment for the same week decreased by 11,000 to land at 1,655,000. Meanwhile, the 4-week moving average fell by 10,500 to 1,651,500.
