US initial jobless claims down by 30,000 to 260,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending January 22 decreased by 30,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to land at 260,000, US Labor Department reported on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 1.2% for the week ending January 15, unchanged compared to the previous week's unrevised rate. Insured unemployment during the same week grew by 51,000 to 1,675,000. The four-week moving average landed at 1,651,750, decreasing by 10,750 compared to the week prior.
