US initial jobless claims fall by 249K to 1.19M

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending August 1 fell by 249,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to land at 1,186,000 million, the US Department of Labor revealed on Thursday.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 11% for the week ending July 25, a decline of 0.6% compared to the previous week's unrevised rate. Insured unemployment in the same week was 16,107,000, a decrease of 844,000 from the previous week's revised level.

The four-week moving average dropped by 413,250 to 16,628,250 compared to the previous week.
