US initial jobless claims fall by 58K to 1.5M

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending June 13 fell by 58,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to land at 1,508,000, the US Department of Labor revealed on Thursday. The new figures show that almost 46 million people in the US filed for jobless claims since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate stood at 14.1% for the week ending June 6, remaining unchanged compared to the previous week's revised rate. Insured unemployment in the same week was 20,544,000, a decrease of 62,000 from the previous week's revised level.

The four-week moving average dropped by 1,092,000 to 20,814,750 compared to the previous week.
