US initial jobless claims rise by 8,000 to 219,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States rose/fell by 8,000 to 219,000 in the week ending February 22 compared to the previous seven-day period, missing the estimates, the country's Department of Labor announced on Thursday. The four-week moving average stood at 209,750, growing by 500 from the previous week's revised average.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending February 15 was flat compared to the previous week at 1.2%.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending February 15 was 1,724,000, slipping by 9,000 from the previous week's revised level. The four-week moving average amounted to 1,729,250, a rise of 5,250 from the previous week's revised figure.
