US initial jobless claims up by 37,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending April 20 increased by 37,000 compared to the previous week's revised figure to reach 230,000, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday. The previous week's level was revised upwards by 1,000 to 193,000. The four-week moving average was 206,000, up by 4,500 compared to the previous week's revised average of 201,500.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending April 13 was 1.2%, which was unchanged from the previous week. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the same week was 1,655,000, increasing by 1,000 from the previous week's revised figure. The four-week moving average was 1,687,750, or 25,000 less compared to the previous week's revised average of 1,712,750.
