US initial jobless claims up by 4,000 to 215,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending August 24 increased by 4,000 compared to previous week's revised figure to reach 215,000, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday. The four-week moving average was 214,500, down by 500 compared to the previous week's revised average of 215,000.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending August 17 was 1.2%, unchanged compared to the previous week. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the same week was 1,698,000, up by 22,000 from the previous week's revised figure. The four-week moving average was 1,697,250, marking a decline of 250 compared to the previous week's revised average.
