US initial jobless claims up by 9,000 to 220,000

Initial jobless claims in the United States for the week ending August 10 increased by 9,000 compared to previous week's revised figure to reach 220,000, the US Department of Labor reported on Thursday. The four-week moving average was 213,750, up by 1,000 compared to the previous week's revised average of 212,750.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending August 3 was 1.2%, unchanged compared to the previous week. The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the same week was 1,726,000, rising by 39,000 from the previous week's revised figure. The four-week moving average was 1,697,250, marking an increase of 9,250 compared to the previous week's unrevised average of 1,688,000.
