US interfering attempts doomed to fail - China

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs blasted the signing of the Hong Kong Bill by the United States on Thursday, saying that Washington will have to "shoulder all consequences" if it continues to violate the international law and basic principles of foreign relations.

The Ministry further stressed that it "resolutely opposes" the law and that US "attempts to interfere in Hong Kong affairs are doomed to fail." The statement also reiterated Beijing would retaliate without detailing what that might entail.

President Trump signed the Hong Kong Bill earlier, saying that he had decided to do so "out of respect for President Xi, China, and the people of Hong Kong."
