US jobless claims down by 2,000 to 250,000

The number of seasonally adjusted initial jobless claims in the United States decreased by 2,000 to 250,000 in the week ending August 13, the Department of Labor revealed in its report published on Thursday. The 4-week moving average went down by 2,750 from the previous week's revised average to land at 246,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending August 6 remained unchanged at 1.0% compared to the previous week's unrevised rate. The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rose by 7,000, standing at 1,437,000. The 4-week moving average went up by 13,250 from the previous week's revised average to 1,413,000.
