US jobless claims up by 31,000 to 742,000

The number of initial jobless claims in the United States went up by 31,000 since the previous report to land in at 742,000 in the week ending November 14, the US Labor Department revealed on Thursday.

The 4-week moving average stood at 742,000, declining by 13,750 from the previous week's revised average. Meanwhile, the previous week's average was revised up by 500 from 755,250 to 755,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate for the week ending November 7 came in at 4.3%, falling by 0.3% in comparison to the previous week's unrevised rate. Meanwhile, insured unemployment for the same period was 6,372,000, decreasing by 429,000 since the last week's revised figure.
