US legislators pushing for $120B aid for restaurants

A bipartisan group of United States lawmakers wants to create a $120 billion aid fund for restaurants affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

The bill includes two versions, with both providing aid in the form of grants. The House version is aimed at helping restaurants that are not a part of a larger chain, while the Senate one would scrap that requirement and allow chain-owned businesses to apply for aid as well.

"This is a significant part of our economy and it is more at risk than almost any other segment," Senator Roger Wicker, one of the backers of the bill said.
