US markets lower amid economic data, Fed's Powell

US stock markets opened lower on Tuesday amid the publication of new economic data and ahead of the speech of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

Before the opening, the country's Bureau of Economic Analysis and the Census Bureau said that the goods and services trade deficit came in at $67.4 billion in December, increasing by $6.4 billion compared to the last month's revised figure. Moreover, during the premarket session, shares of Microsoft and Alphabet were trading higher after yesterday's announcement that Google will introduce a ChatGPT-like chatbot named Bard.

The Dow Jones lost 0.48% at 9:31 am ET, with Home Depot sinking 1.74%. The Nasdaq 100 was flat, while Lucid Group was decreasing by 1.67%. A minute later, the S&P 500 declined by 0.26%, as Incyte dropped by 4.42%. The euro was down by 0.31% against the dollar at 9:27 am ET, selling for $1.06965.
