US markets open lower as Q4 earnings season starts

Wall Street opened in the red territory on Friday, after the fourth quarter earnings season kicked off with major United States banks, including Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Citigroup reporting results from the last three months of 2022. BlackRock, Delta Air Lines and UnitedHealth also released their latest quarterly figures.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index lost 0.77% or 264 points at the open. JPMorgan was the worst performer after losing 3.19% at 9:31 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 opened 0.81% lower as Rivian led the losses, decreasing 5.94% at 9:31 am ET. The S&P 500 declined by 0.76% in the first minute of trading. Delta fell 6.16% at 9:31 am ET.

The euro was 0.47% lower than the dollar at 9:29 am ET, trading at 1.08020.
