US markets start higher amid new trade deal hopes

United States stock markets opened with gains on Wednesday after President Donald Trump hinted yesterday that he would consider extending the March 1 deadline for a trade deal with Beijing. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said that a final trade agreement depends on a potential meeting between Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. Meanwhile, reports emerged that the president will sign the bipartisan deal on the government funding in order to avert another government shutdown.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened 0.26% in the green. Goldman Sachs Group led the gains, increasing 1.43% at 9:31 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 started 0.34% higher at 9:30 am ET pulled up by Marriott International gains of 3.33% at open. The S&P 500 increased by 0.29% at the same time. Activision Blizzard Inc. was the best performer, soaring 7.49%.

Meanwhile, the euro lost 0.43% against the dollar, selling for 1.2824 at 9:32 am ET.
