US new home sales down 16.6% to 591,000 in April
Sales of new single‐family houses across the United States declined 16.6% in April compared to the previous month to land at 591,000, according to a report published by the Census Bureau on Tuesday. On a yearly basis, new home sales plunged by 26.9%.
The figure came in significantly under market estimates, and reached the lowest level since April 2020. However, the month supply was nine months up from six months recorded in March.
The median sales price of sold new houses stood at $450,600 in April, with the average sales price being $570,300. The seasonally‐adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of last month was 444,000.
